Bank Holiday Chaos

Delivered "Moor Rain" (see previous post) painting this morning to Gallery-S. I was pleased to see that my paintings have now moved to the window, which I feel very chuffed about, it doesn't get more prominent than that! The journey was quite slow, you could tell that the weather is getting better and its a bank holiday weekend, the motorbikes were out in force . Also plenty of old chaps on the road today driving at 32.7 mph unless there is a prevailing wind or they going downhill, in which case they just reach terminal velocity :-) Also delivered the following painting which is one of my more recent abstract paintings, its 36 by 24 inches

Delivered paintings for Blackfriars Exhibition

Yesterday we travelled over to Craig Kerrekoe in Ely in order to drop off the paintings for the Blackfriars Exhibition. Craig made us very welcome and its was a good opportunity to see his cool paintings in real life. The advertising literaure is looking great and I think the exhibition is going to be a success. MoorRain - pun for a painting name

Since Easter I have sold three paintings at my local gallery which is great news! My gallery owner is getting very excited and my paintings have attracted quite alot of interest and they are even considering giving one of abstract paintings a chance as well. They have just updated there web site, its at http://www.gallery-s.co.uk/, I am not on there yet.

MoorRain I (catchy?!) the painting featured above is my latest one, another misty stormy Derbyshire moor. It helps that Derbyshire is quite misty and stormy this time of year :-) Its a 2 foot by 3 foot canvas and I hope to deliver to the gallery at the weekend.

How do you know when a painting is finished?

How do you know when a painting is finished, thats what I have been asking myself recently. I'm not the first and won't be the last. I am talking about painters who keep adding one-last-thing to their work and the painting seems endless and never finished.

This one was finished for several days, in fact you can see the earlier version in a previous days blog. The trouble is I keep adding a new cloud here or there, some new mist here, how about making those hills more prominent? I will have relief from this torture very soon as my friend will be taking it away for valuation in advance of the auction (charity).

I heard about one famous painter, I forget the name, who actually went around to clients houses months after the painting was finished to make further changes. I promised not to do that! For me once it leaves me then thats it bye-bye picture.

I've got to go now and just make those clouds a bit fluffier in the distance .......

Bleeding Face in a Rusty Fencepost

Went for a nice long walk today in the local countryside. The route took us past disused bridges and railiways and generally amongst decay and rust. Almost by chance I came across a beautiful rusted post and discovered this quite startling image. I can certainly see a face, I love the way the rust looks like blood.

Anyhow its inspired me to release a series of limited edition (A4) photos called "Found Things" which collects together this an other images, mainly based on decay, rust and street art/graffiti.

Dramatic Derbsyhire auction painting nearly ready for valuation

My large landscape painting of Derbyshire moorland is nearly finished. Its 3 foot by 2 foot (90cm by 60cm) which is the largest painting I've attempted so far. The canvas seemed like a vast monstrous unpaintable lump of canvas when I started but now is seems quite small. I have decided that painiting on this scale is not so scary after all.

The painting will be valued by a famous UK TV antiques expert so I'm quite nervous already! Later in the year it will go to auction at quite a prestigous event where hopefully some rich and generous person will pay alot of money for it. Its not the best photo in the world and when I have a better one I will upload it.

Sparse new landscape

I was playing around yesterday trying to use a lighter palate loaded with more white and less dark tones. I deliberatley tried to make the landscape as indistinct as possible and was using quick spontaneous and wet approach, rather like a water colour (its acrylic). I'm quite pleased with the results. Even the clouds are OK and believed me I have spent hundreds of hours practising clouds! I'm thinking of giving it an ironic title like "heathens can't wait" coming at this from an ironic humanist angle, and it does look a bit like heaven don't you think?

Exhibitions later in the year

Haven't been blogging this week as suffering from nasty cold/flu thing :-) Anyhow I am joining an art exhibition between 16th May to 12th June at Blackfriars, Boston. (UK). Which will be fantastic, myself and Craig Kerrecoe the organiser (and artist) are finalising details at the moment for my selection of paintings. I have started work tonight on a large (36" by 22") "landscape for charity" of Derbyshire moorland, which will be auctioned later in the year. I will post pictures as it develops.
